On 2-3 March, 2020 UNODA organized a thematic seminar on pillar II. (non-proliferation) of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) with the financial support of the EU. Ambassador György Molnár in his capacity as the Chair of the Nuclear Security Contact Group (NSCG) gave a presentation in the panel on nuclear security on Hungary’s work as convener of the NSCG composed of states that are prepared to play a leading role in strengthening nuclear security.

Minister Szijjártó addressed the UNGA plenary on “The situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine”

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, H. E. Minister Szijjártó addressed the General Assembly’s plenary session on “The situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine”, besides his several other meetings in the UN. In his statement, Minister Szijjártó stressed that while fully supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, Hungary firmly rejects the violations of indigenous Hungarian minorities’ rights by the neighbouring country.

Mr. János Áder, President of Hungary participated in the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019, which was convened by the Secretary General of the UN on 23 September 2019 on the margin of the 74th Session of General Assembly. President Áder also held bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. António Guterres Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi President of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta President of Kenya, H.E. Mr. Lenín Moreno President of Ecuador, H.E. Mr. Jean Crétien former Prime Minister of Canada as well as H.E. The formal debate organized for the second time after 2009 addressed the UN Secretary-General's eleventh annual report on R2P, entitled “Lessons Learned for Prevention” In Hungary’s national statement delivered by Legal Adviser Mr. Gyula Mike reaffirmed Hungary’s strong commitment towards the principle of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) was reaffirmed.
