The International Prayer Breakfast is a non-political, non-partisan event that has been observed each year since 1985 in recognition of the opening of the annual United Nations General Assembly Session. One of the objectives of this gathering are to invoke God’s wisdom and blessing on those involved in the work of the UN and to express the support of the faith community for those who serve at the UN.

Upon the opening of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the 32nd Annual International Prayer Breakfast took place on 12 September at the United Nations. The event was moderated by H.E. Ambassador Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN and member of the Host Committee and hosted by the Foreign Service Fellowship International and the Christian Embassy to the UN.

The Welcome and Prayer of Thanksgiving was given by H.E. Ambassador Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN, followed by the Host Country Remarks by H.E. Mrs. Nikki Haley, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the UN. H.E. Mr. António Guterres, Secetary General of the UN and H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly gave speeches as guests of honor.

H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák emphasized the important role of the members of the faith communities in facing the great challenges ahead of us.

The representatives of the Host Committee and the distinguished guests and family members were praying on behalf on the 193 nations for God’s mercy in restoring a world of peace, respect, mutual understanding and for a successful United Nations General Assembly Session.

After the speech of H.E. Dr. Ravi Zacharias apologist, H.E. Ambassador Bogyay highlighted the importance of the emotional support from our beloved family members, which is never as important as now before the UNGA72.
