Open Arria Formula Meeting on Children born of sexual violence in conflict
On October 25, an open Arria formula meeting on Children born of sexual violence in conflict was organized by the Permanent Missions of Poland, France, Germany and Bolivia, at the UN. In her statement, Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN highlighted the importance of eliminating stigma and ensuring a human rights-based, survivor-centered approach to protect victims of sexual violence and their children.
Security Council Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security
On October 25, 2018, Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN, addressed the Security Council at its annual Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security. In her statement, Ambassador Bogyay highlighted the importance of women’s increased participation at all stages and levels of peace processes, and underlined the role of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in preventing conflict and achieving sustainable peace.
Hungary participates in Interactive dialogues of the Third Committee
Hungary actively participated in the Interactive Dialogues of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, expressing its support for the rights of minorities, the right to mother-tongue education, as well as freedom of religion and belief, among others.
Global meeting of UN Resident Coordinators at UN Headquarters
H.E. Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General chaired the first global meeting of UN Resident Coordinators with Member States on 19 October in the ECOSOC chamber to discuss progress on the reform of the UN development system and exchange views about expectations with regard to the new generation of Resident Coordinators and UN country teams to become operational as of 1 January 2019. H.E. Ambassador Katalin Annamária Bogyay, Hungary’s Permanent Representative to the UN was invited to give her remarks at the panel, as chair of the Eastern European group for the month of October.
Hungary UN Envoy thanks Ban Ki-moon for release of UN documents on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution
On 18 October 2018 H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, former Secretary-General of the UN, was awarded the ‘"A cry for freedom" commemorative bronze statute by Ambassador Katalin Bogyay on the occasion of the Hungarian National Day commemorating the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
